about

Live studio recording of an Aquebogue 3 meter Black Locust tree.
The tree is mic'ed using four to six handmade contact microphones and is played as a percussion instrument through multiple filters.
The Black Locust aka Robinia Pseudoacacia is one of the tougher hardwoods in North America. It is an invasive species used for everything from fence posts to ship masts because of its endurance and strength.
On the East End of Long Island it is especially prolific and muscles its way everywhere it can.
This piece is a celebration of the thorny, sweet smelling, rough barked, under appreciated, tough as concrete Black Locust tree.
